Application

How did the application & selection process work?

There were two application rounds, one took place in April 2009 and the second application round in  November 2009. There was a standardized application form for all participants (see below). Please note that only employees of Trans Europe Halles centres that take part in Changing Room (see list) could take part in the programme.

Unfortunately it was and is not possible for cultural operators outside the Changing Room project to take part in the Staff Exchange trajectory!

  • OZU, Monteleone Sabino, Italy

1) initiating new events and activity

2) recycling old stuff for new purposes

3) improvise in solving problems

Cannot host: during the months of November ‘09 - December ‘09 - January ‘10 - February ‘10 and March ‘10

What you should know about OZU:

Ozu is a relatively new centre that has been trying to find its path and define its audience and aims. As such, and since the people who operate this facility are all volunteers, we have realized that we have been good at offering people a good starting point for new initiatives and activities to be performed and presented to the local audience. We are also good at recycling old stuff for new
purposes, and last but not least is our excellent ability to improvise and solve problems as they pop up quite often. We are flexible and open to new concepts. We fully collaborate with artists who wish to come and stay with us, and use our facilities and wonderful improvisational abilities.

We definitely haven’t yet been able to offer any strict framework to what we are doing. i.e. we aren’t good at offering a well defined organizational structure, and even though we have been organizing very successful events, we haven’t yet found a way to turn them into an ongoing tradition that would yield the proper financial resources for our next activities.

Another important fact to consider is that, apart from the activities that we plan during the year, a lot of interesting things happen without planning them: our centre is an excellent place for meeting a large variety of people with different skills, and we are open and ready to catch sudden opportunities which constantly pop up, to host people and offer them our support .

To sum this up, We are very good in inventing, initiating and generating new events and activities in response to the needs of the audience. So if someone is searching for a place rich in creative inputs, he will find in OZU a good hosting center. If someone is searching for a very well organized center, he will not have a good experience in OZU as we are still learning and trying to improve in this sense.

  • Stanica, Zilina, Slovakia

Areas for hosting:

1) education through art

We have some experience in this field, as we organize workshops for children. but we would like to work on a next and more complex strategy of education (children up to 12) that we would like to apply in next years. it should be more integrated with productions that are presented within cultural programme of Stanica; this includes also communication and cooperation with schools

2) technical issues

Light design or sound operation (we canboth share our knowledge but we would also like to organize a workshop of light design for our staff); or a more experienced person can help
us to produce truss system or other equipment in our new theatre venue.

3) European grants

How to raise money from different international foundations (in this field we would rather need to learn).

Good to know about Stanica:

Stanica would prefer to host someone from 2 weeks to 1 month, and everyone at the centre speaks English. The Stanica crew does not feel as professionals - there is still a lot to learn in all the fileds, so it would be rather about sharing our experience than giving knowledge to someone. In the
best case scenario, we will work together on a project that will be contribute to both.
